The Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus Is An Oasis in the City

If you have ever had to grapple with a difficult situation, you may have asked for the intercession of St. Jude, AKA the patron saint of lost causes.

St. Jude the Apostle, also known as Thaddeus, was one of the twelve apostles chosen by Jesus. He is mentioned in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke and is often identified as the brother of James the Less.

St. Jude was a crucial figure in the early Church, spreading Christianity after Jesus’ death and resurrection. According to tradition, he traveled throughout Mesopotamia and Persia, where he preached the Gospel and eventually faced martyrdom alongside St. Simon the Zealot. St. Jude is credited with writing the Epistle of Jude, which is found in the New Testament.

In honor of St. Jude's Feast Day on October 28, we invite you to tour his remarkable shrine in California:

Located in San Fransisco, the Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus is on a mission to "further devotion to St. Jude Thaddeus, 'Patron of Difficult Cases,' and to support the education and formation of worthy students for the Dominican priesthood and brotherhood."

Founded in 1935, the Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus and the Dominican Friars invite pilgrims to join them on a spiritual journey, beginning with daily mass.

Mass at the Shrine takes place Monday to Friday at 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Saturday at 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., and Sunday at 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m.

Billed as an "oasis set in the midst of the spiritual dryness that can all too often mark our society," the Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus also hosts novenas and special missions, plus masses for your intentions.

While you're there, be sure to check out the gift shop for beautiful art and statues to decorate your home!
