The Mother's Mount Is A Gift From St. Monica to Moms Everywhere

If you are a mother, you NEED to know St. Monica (and add her to your arsenal of friends in heaven praying on your behalf).

St. Monica, the patron saint of mothers, married women, and conversions, is a true testament to the power of prayer and perseverance. Born in North Africa in 322, she faced many challenges in her personal life, including a difficult marriage and the wayward behavior of her son, Augustine, who would later become one of the Church's greatest theologians and a saint himself.

In honor of this amazing wife, mother, and human - who was able to convert both her husband and son through the power of prayer - and her Feast Day on August 27th, we are taking a trip to St. Augustine Church:

Located in Ossining, New York, St. Augustine Church has been a true haven for Catholics since its founding in 1853.

Sure, it may be named after her son, but the St. Augustine Church is still the perfect tribute to St. Monica, beginning with her namesake Mother's Mount.

Overlooking the Hudson River, St. Monica's Mothers Mount is dedicated not only to the saint herself but "our mothers, living and deceased, who prayed for the faith of their children."

Situated atop a rocky hill behind the Church, the Mothers Mount is the perfect place to pray and reflect, as St. Monica often did for her son.

In addition to the statue, St. Monica's Mothers Mount also boasts a peaceful place to sit and personalized stones with the names of parishioners' moms.

When you visit, check out what else St. Augustine's offers, including the Father's Court, St. Kateri Habitat, and the parish's various special events.

Mass at St. Augustine Church takes place Monday through Friday at 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., and Sunday at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 p.m., and 6 p.m.
