The Midwest is Home To The St. Peter Damian Church

Catholics and non-Catholics alike know that St. Valentine's feast day is this month, but another important saint also deserves a shout-out: St. Peter Damian. 

Celebrated on February 21st, St. Peter Damian is remembered as a reformer, theologian, and Doctor of the Church. Born around 1007 in Ravenna, Italy, Peter faced a difficult childhood after being orphaned, but still excelled in his studies, eventually becoming a Benedictine monk and later the prior of the hermitage at Fonte Avellana.

St. Peter was known for his efforts to reform the Church during a time of widespread corruption. He promoted discipline, humility, and devotion and wrote extensively on theological and spiritual matters. Elevated to cardinal and bishop of Ostia, he continued to serve the Church tirelessly until he died in 1072.

Located in Bartlett, Illinois, St. Peter Damian has been operating since 1929 and is on a mission to be a "source of hope, inspiration, and spiritual growth for the community."

All who visit are invited to attend mass in the church's beautiful sanctuary or at the nearby Chapel.

Mass at St. Peter Damian Church is celebrated on Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11 a.m.

Mass at the St. Peter Damian Chapel is celebrated Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m.

In addition to weekday mass, the Chapel also offers weekday adoration at 7:30 a.m., a rosary at 8 a.m., and a Divine Mercy Chaplet at 9 a.m.

Depending on when you visit, you may even get to take in one of St. Peter Damian's special events, a la prayer services, rosary celebrations, and even Mary crownings.
