You Can Observe the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Baltimore Basilica

As we discussed last week, August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, but that isn't the only side of our Mother we are celebrating, as the Feast of the Assumption of Mary takes place on August 15th!

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a profound and cherished belief among Catholics, marking the day when Mary was assumed to be in heaven. This event underscores her purity and sinless life, affirming her role as the Mother of God and Queen of Heaven.

The Feast Day of the Assumption of Mary is worth celebrating, which is why we are highlighting this unique pilgrimage opportunity via the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary:

Also known as the Baltimore Basilica, the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is billed as being one of the country's first religious buildings, thanks to its construction in the early 1800s.

Built by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, America's first professionally trained architect, the Baltimore Basilica is a stunning site with painted ceilings, a double-shell dome, and the Pope John Paul II Prayer Garden.

Not only was the Basilica designed by a historical architect, but it was also overseen by America's first-ever Catholic bishop, John Carroll.

Since it is dedicated to the Assumption, you will also find many statues, icons, and even a Chapel honoring Our Lady.
